Yukari "Caroline" Hayasaka (早坂紫 Hayasaka Yukari) is the main protagonist of the Paradise Kiss anime and manga series.
At the start of the series, Yukari is introduced as a cynical and strait-laced girl with the ambition to enroll herself into a good university. However, at the point when Yukari meets Jōji Koizumi and his friends from ParaKiss, as well as having to witness the fruits of their labor from the clothes they produce for their clothing line, Yukari's studious demeanor drops to where she actively pursues the path of modeling.
Later on in the story, Yukari becomes an official model for the Treetop agency.
Physical appearance[]
Yukari is a beautiful young woman with a tall and slender frame. She has mid-back length black hair with bangs that originally hung just above her eyebrows before they were cut by Seiji Kisaragi, a light olive complexion, thin eyebrows, and dark brown eyes.
While commonly seen in her school uniform, as she is a 3rd year student at Seiei Academy, Yukari is seen to wear fashionable clothes, courtesy from those in ParaKiss, as well as Jōji Koizumi.
Personality and traits[]
When the story begins, Yukari is an attractive girl with a rather boring, unattractive and most of all cynical personality who is very focused on her studies and her entrance exams almost obsessively so. As the story goes on, it is easy to see that she is very unsure of herself and is not made better by her mother's persistence. Her mothers persistence to do her best rubbed off on her as she tries to go well beyond her limits. She still manages to disappoint Yasuko Hayasaka, occasionally being slapped or yelled at; though this is only because Suguru Hayasaka is a child prodigy and where Yukari lacks, he excels. Her tireless efforts go unnoticed and because of this she starts to tire of school work all together.
One thing that Ai Yazawa does magnificently is show how Yukari really changes throughout the story. At first, she is a rather boring and unhappy girl with a lacking personality. Once she meets the Para-crew and reluctantly joins them, her personality slowly changes. Though she still can be very selfish, mean, and catty, her intense relationship with George pushes her to grab hold of her identity, despite the fact that she feels he is a cold and manipulative man.
Biography[]
On her first day at university, she works hard even though her grades are declining which makes her not a bad student but a child prodigy to be well expected in school from her early teens. When she failed her first entrance exam for a reputable elementary school, Yukari worked harder on studying constantly and succeeds at getting into Seiei Academy.
When the story starts, Yukari is 18 years old and a senior high school student at Seiei Academy where her life seemed rather boring and meaningless up until the point that she is discovered by Arashi Nagase and Isabella Yamamoto. When she first meets the para-crew, she is very cruel to them saying what they do is meaningless. However, as time goes by and she starts to get to know the para-crew, she starts to loosen up. Not only does her personality change, but her entire demeanor. Eventually, she even falls in love with Jōji Koizumi who is the most influential member of them all.
Whilst developing close friendships Yukari also begins to develop as a model and takes pride in her appearance, often wearing clothes created/gifted to her by George (Joji) of Paradise Kiss design. Before the competition she also takes part in photoshoots at Happy Berry, appearing alongside Jōji Koizumi, her first modelling career, here she discovers her true calling.
After Paradise Kiss do not win first place they decide to disband. Through the help of the Para-kiss Yukari discovers her calling and becomes her own person, free from other's expectations of her. For this reason she chooses not to follow her love, Jōji Koizumi to Paris and remains in Japan as a model.
After the time-skip we see Yukari has fulfilled her dream and become a successful model, earning a name throughout the years and nearing the age of retirement. We also learn she's engaged to former classmate and crush Hiroyuki Tokumori and presumably has not heard from George since.

- Yukari is the heroine of Paradise Kiss and made her debut in the first chapter. Yukari was the only character in Paradise Kiss to appear in all forty-eight chapters.
- In the manga and the anime, Yukari breaks up with Jōji Koizumi.
- In the last chapter, Yukari is engaged to Hiroyuki Tokumori and they are planning on going to U.S for their honeymoon after the wedding (which would make her Yukari Tokumori).

- The name Yukari means "purple, violet" (紫).
